STEP 1 OF 6
Your zero-prep lesson
- This plan fills exactly 30 minutes. Read the bold ideas; ask the questions; let the children do the activity.
- Goal: Create review questions aligned to lesson goals
- Gather: Index cards or mini whiteboards, Question bank, Exit tickets
3MINUTES
STEP 2 OF 6
Welcome and hook
- Ask: What kind of review helps you remember without making you feel embarrassed?
- ANSWER KEY: Low-pressure retrieval, partner explanation, useful feedback, and a chance to correct mistakes help learning without humiliation.
- IF THE ROOM IS QUIET: Read the answer key, then ask students to give one example.

STEP 3 OF 6
Qur'an 16:125
- Call unto the way of thy Lord with wisdom and fair exhortation, and reason with them in the better way. Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is Best Aware of those who go aright.
- WHAT TO POINT OUT: Assessment should reveal what students understand so teaching can improve.
- TIP: Read the English slowly. Students do not need to translate the Arabic themselves.

STEP 4 OF 6
Teach these facts
- Assessment should reveal what students understand so teaching can improve.
- Retrieval—trying to remember before seeing an answer—strengthens learning.
- Good questions match the lesson objective and require explanation, not only guessing.
- Games should reward thinking and teamwork rather than speed alone.
- Errors are information for reteaching; never use a review to humiliate a child.
10MINUTES
STEP 5 OF 6
Team explain-and-steal
- Ask one review question to a team and allow thirty seconds of discussion.
- One student answers and explains; a correct answer earns one point.
- If incomplete, another team may add—not mock—a missing idea for a shared point.
- TEACHER TIP: Rotate the spokesperson so one confident student does not answer everything. Give thinking time before accepting hands.
- ASK: Which question exposed something we should review again?
- LISTEN FOR: Listen for the correct idea plus reasoning. Another team may complete an answer respectfully; the goal is finding what needs reteaching, not winning quickly.
5MINUTES
STEP 6 OF 6
Check, reflect, and close
- ASK: What is the most important idea from today, and how could you use it?
- ANSWER KEY: A strong answer should include this idea: Assessment should reveal what students understand so teaching can improve.
- IF NEEDED, START THE SENTENCE: “Today I learned that…”
- TAKE-HOME ACTION: No student homework. Teachers use the results to plan the next five-minute review.
